In folklore, butterflies were viewed as ‘fairies’ and moths as ‘witches'. The Ascalapha odorata, or Black Witch Moth is said to represent death but they also symbolize the soul. If you see one shortly after a loved one’s death, it is the soul returning for a final farewell. They’re known as money moths in the Bahamas. So if they land on you, money is on the way and if one lands above your door in south Texas, you’ll win the lottery! It’s not hard for Witches and moths are said to be much alike. Witches are creatures of the night. Moths are creatures of the night. Witches can transform themselves. Moths can transform themselves (metamorphosis).
