There are many types of magical books. From the formal systems in medieval handbooks of spirit conjuration to the personal collections of spells and instructions known as working-books and receipt-books, even published as "Books of Secrets", and from the densest treatises on occult philosophy to the most evocative and expressive of illuminated manuscripts. There are magical books said to have been authored by the angels, and plenty rumoured to have been penned by the Devil himself. Books are not simply repositories of ritual liturgy, tables of correspondences, circle designs, potion recipes, and the various seals and signatures of your spirits. They are themselves a tool and a badge of office for the witch, magician, and the exorcist alike. Certainly the production of one's own magic book is an important endeavor in many traditions. In this class, professional diviner and consultant sorcerer Dr. Alexander Cummins will lead us through a variety of approaches, understandings, and techniques for constructing magical books. This will include examination of various historical operations of sorcery to consecrate and empower the parchment, ink, and pen that will be used to make the book as well as how to work with your spellbook itself. So come learn not just about magic books but about book magic itself!
